Deborah Bassett 🇺🇸 / Presenter
OUT OF BABYLON is an electronic music project created by multimedia artist, singer, songwriter and musician, Deborah Bassett and based out of Florida in the United States. Immersed in music from a young age and self-taught on the piano and guitar, Deborah began singing and producing music in 2018. In 2021, the project released its debut album THE SECRET PLACE on Bandcamp. The seven tracks on this album were inspired by Bassett’s father, a gifted musician and global nomad. For the seven tracks on THE SECRET PLACE, the band found inspiration in lyrics drawn from the comforting words of the Psalms paired with synthesizers and a techno beat for a mix that listeners describe as simultaneously energizing and peaceful. All proceeds from THE SECRET PLACE are donated to the international medical humanitarian organization, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
OUT OF BABYLON draws inspiration from growing up in the 1980s and absorbing the alternative music scene in the 1990s, and is influenced by many genres and artists, including American heavy metal, British synth pop, electronic dance music in all its variations, Gospel, contemporary Native American rap, and especially the awesome global independent music scene. The band is motivated by the healing and transformative power of music and dance.
A second album, EVERLASTING is due for release on 4 March 2022. The seven tracks for this album were composed during the Covid-19 pandemic, and produced in the dark months of 2021 and early 2022 as political turmoil, climate disasters, and virus mutations raged all around the U.S. and the world. About making this album, Deborah says, “Making music has become our lifeline during this tumultuous time and we are grateful for the global community of independent artists and music lovers who support us in a myriad of ways. The overriding message of this album is: May all beings find peace that is everlasting.”
